Aaron at 4 months

It has been a busy month in the world of learning for Aaron. He has mastered the use of his hands...specifically putting his thumbs in his mouth and grasping any object within reach.

He laughs and smiles when we talk to him or make funny faces (which is often). He enjoys bath time and really enjoys having his diaper changed. He can roll onto his left side and giggles when he holds his sideways position.

He has been to the aquatic centre and went under the water twice. The first time he was surprised, but the second time he frowned so we stopped there and called it a successful first dunking.

His sleeping is too good to be true. So in an effort to not jinx what we've got going on well just say he knows the difference between night and day and just like mom and dad, he appreciates the imporatance of a good night sleep:)

He loves being read to and has started to grasp at the pages himself.

Daddy is busy working on completing Aaron's bedroom renovations. Which should be done by the end of Sept/early Oct. By then mommy should be ready for Aaron to sleep in his own room (maybe:))

Welcome to the Family Aaron!!

For our family and friends, new and old, so they may know the path that brought us together.

May 2009 – Life as we knew it was changed for ever. We received the phone call we thought would never come. We had been selected by a birth family to adopt their newborn son. Beautiful baby boy, born May 20,2009, 7lbs, 0oz.

Thursday May 21,2009 – We received a phone call in Whitehorse by our Guardian Angel in Ontario, wondering if we were interested in a potential adoption. Ironically, we also received an email from our Social worker this morning, announcing that our home study was officially completed and we could pick up our copy from the office anytime.

Friday May 22, 2009 – We both tried to go into work today as 'business as usual', however this day would prove anything but usual. Tanya left work at noon, as conversations between us and Ontario were ongoing. Jon and Tanya met with Whitehorse social workers in the afternoon....is this really happening!!

Saturday May 23, 2009 – Tanya was asked how soon could she get to Ontario to meet this bundle of joy? Naturally I'm on the next flight...less than an hour to pack. Jon drove me to the airport. This IS really happening. Although the flight was 45 mintues ahead of schedule, it still felt like the longest flight in the world.

Sunday May 24, 2009 – Tanya was not able to see the baby in the hospital, due to hospital policy....consented paperwork needed to be signed first. This took nearly 4 days to complete.

Thursday May 28, 2009 – Tanya finally able to meet baby in hosptial. He threw up on me within seconds of me holding him....guess he was marking his territory? It's a badge of honour I will treasure forever.

Friday May 29,2009 – Baby was discharged to Foster Home until all legal paperwork was completed. This took antoher 2 weeks, however we were able to visit with baby every day, thanks to the wonderful Foster Family.

May 30, 2009 – Jon flew to Ontario to join Tanya and meet baby.
We named him Aaron Adam Patrick Solberg.

June 12, 2009 – Finally received approval from Ministry of Child and Youth services for Aaron to be placed in our care. We had to remain in Ontario until July 2nd at midnight (as this was the cut off date in which the birth parents could change their minds). Stayed up till midnight 'just in case', and thankfully, they did not change their minds.

June 28 , 2009 – We had a 'Welcome to the Family; Celebration for Aaron at our house in Ontario. Good thing our tenants weren't moving in until July 1st. We had a place to stay during the 5 weeks we were in Ontario. PLUS, Aaron got to meet Tanya's side of the family and our dearest friends in Ontario.

July 3, 2009 - Flew from Ontario back to the Yukon with Aaron. He travelled extremely well, and we settled into our new routine as a family in our home in Whitehorse. Oh yea, drove straight to the lawyers office as soon as we got off the plane to initiate the Adoption paperwork for Yukon.

Well that is the quick story of how this adoption came to be. Again we had a Guardian Angel looking out for us...who wishes to remain unknown, therefore some details are purposely left out of the story. You know who you are and what you mean to us. We think of (and thank) you every day.

The rest of the blogs will pick up from when we returned to Whitehorse.

Needless to say, we are on cloud nine......even at 3am!!!

Welcome to our Website

Welcome to our website!! We hope you will visit often, to see how life in the North is treating the Solberg’s.

Much love,
Tanya, Jon and Aaron (and Jazzy too)
